Who we are
The Trans Well-being Team is an NGO focusing on the mental health of trans people. Our team was founded in March 2018 in Guangzhou, and currently has more than 40 volunteers. Our goal is to improve the well-being of trans people and to promote gender diversity and equality in society through community service, community empowerment, research, public education, and social advocacy.
Trans people (transgender people and gender non-conforming people), refer to people whose gender identity or gender expression is inconsistent with the social norms of their sex assigned at birth, and who cross, challenge and transcend the traditional definition of male and female. Trans people include groups such as Gender Queer (Non-Binary, Third Gender), Trans Women (“Male to Female/MtF”), Trans Men (“Female to Male/FtM”), Transexual People (“TS”), and Cross-Dressers(“CD”).
What we do
- Psychological services
We provide psychological counseling and psychological hotline services, and we have provided more than 380 psychological services to more than 160 trans people, and their family members and friends.
- WeChat group for trans people
We have established and managed a WeChat group for trans people, and more than 200 trans people have joined in. The average daily speech volume is estimated to exceed 500.
- Community activities
More than 10community activities were carried out in Guangzhou and online, with more than 300 trans people participating.
- Community resources
- Launch ofNetwork of trans friendly psychologists
- Participate in the National Transgender Hotline, the Directory of Transgender Public Welfare Organizations, the Anti-Domestic Violence Resource Map.
- Reprint resources such as parents’ WeChat group, coming out guide, medical information, certificate modification, etc.
- Carry out an advocacy of trans friendly psychological counseling room in middle school.
- Cooperate to carry out an advocacy of sending letters to de-pathology of teaching materials.
- Conducted 4 volunteer recruitment sessions, recruiting more than 40 volunteers, including more than 10 trans people.
- Organized more than 20 internal team activities and dispatched to more than 40 external internships, trainings, workshops, conferences and exchanges.
- 4 investigations were carried out independently, and 2 investigations were carried out in cooperation with foreign researchers.
- Completed main research results: “Research on the Influence of Discrimination Perception of Transgender Groups in China on Mental Health”, “Research Report on Chinese Transgender Health Care Laws and Policies”
- From 2020 onwards, the translation editor will release a global Transgender News every month, and 28 issues have been released.
- Co-organized more than 20 lectures, trainings and workshops, explaining transgender and transgender psychology to more than 800 people. The following is one of them: Trans, Transgender and Multi-gender.
- Wrote and translated 4 articles, with a total reading volume of over 30,000 on WeChat and Weibo.
- Accepted more than 10 interviews with media, NGOs and students.
- Psychologist education
- Translate the “American Psychological Association’s Guide to Psychological Work with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming People”.
- Wrote more than 20 articles and compiled them into “Trans Psychological Work Manual” and “Trans Psychological Counseling Manual”.
- Independently held 8 online training courses, 2 offline workshops, and co-organized 6 lectures, attended by more than 600 Psychologists.
- Established a network of trans friendly psychologists, and more than 20 psychologists joined.
